🟦Doing Something New: X-Box Dance Central

What is Xbox Dance Central?

Dance Central is a fun and energetic dance video game series developed by Harmonix, the same team behind Guitar Hero and Rock Band. It was first released in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and uses the Kinect motion sensor to track your full-body movements—so no controller is needed!

How It Works

Players follow the dance moves shown on screen. A character performs the routine, and “flashcards” show you what move is coming next. You’re scored based on how accurately you copy the moves, with ratings like “Nice,” “Flawless,” or “Almost.”

There are different ways to play:

Perform It! – Dance to the full song and try to get a high score.

Break It Down – Practice each dance move step-by-step.

Dance Battle – Challenge a friend to see who dances best!

Each song has different difficulty levels, and you unlock harder routines by getting good scores on the easier ones.

Characters

You can dance as or with animated characters like:

Angel

Miss Aubrey

Emilia

MacCoy

Mo

Oblio

Taye

Eliot the robot (unlockable)

Ttiw Tolrep (a secret character)

Songs You Can Dance To

The game includes over 30 songs across different genres like pop, hip hop, and funk. A few favorites:

“Poker Face” – Lady Gaga

“Pon de Replay” – Rihanna

“Funkytown” – Lipps Inc.

“Drop It Like It’s Hot” – Snoop Dogg

You can also buy more songs as downloadable content (DLC) if you want to expand your playlist.

Why People Love It

When Dance Central was released, it was praised as one of the best games for Kinect. Reviewers loved how it taught real dance moves and was fun for both solo play and parties. It even won “Family Game of the Year” at the Interactive Achievement Awards.
