Objective:
To be able to count numbers from 1 to 12 and tell the time using simple phrases (e.g., "It’s 3 o’clock").
1.Activity: Counting Fingers Game
Use your hands and say numbers 1-10
Hold up one finger: “One.” Add fingers until you reach 10, asking the your speaking partner to repeat each number.
Practice counting together:
You: 1, 2, 3...”
Speaking Partner "1, 2, 3...”
Play a quick counting game:
You say a number and ask your speaking partner to show the number with their fingers.
2. Language Focus
Part 1: Numbers 1 to 12
Teach numbers 11 and 12 by writing them down and saying them slowly.
Practice counting 1 to 12 together.
Activity: Missing Number. Fill in the missing Numbers
1, __, 3, __, 5__,7__,9__11
__,2,__,4__,6__,8__,10__,12
Ask the student to fill in the missing numbers aloud.
Part 2: Telling the Time
Teach the phrase: “It’s ___ o’clock.”
Use a clock (real or drawn):
Point to 1: “It’s 1 o’clock.”
Point to 2: “It’s 2 o’clock.”
Practice saying times together (e.g., “It’s 5 o’clock,” “It’s 8 o’clock”).
3. Speaking Practice
Activity 1: Clock Matching Game
Draw a simple clock face and use a pencil and rubber to draw the hands to a specific time (e.g. 3 o’clock) and ask your speaking partner:
“What time is it?”
Help your speaking partner if you need to: “It’s 3 o’clock.”
Repeat a few times, taking turns
Activity 2: Numbers Quiz
Say a number and your speaking partner to repeat it.
Point to a number on paper or the clock and ask:
“What number is this?”
Gradually increase speed to make it more fun.
3. Activity: Review & Practice
Review numbers 1 to 12:
Write them down and say them together.
Practice telling the time for random hours on the clock.
Ask:
“What time is it now?”
Help your speaking partner with the time (approximate if needed, e.g., “It’s 5 o’clock”).
Homework:
Draw a clock at home showing their favourite time (e.g., 8 o’clock for bedtime).
Practice saying and writing numbers 1 to 12.
